We were sitting in the meeting room, surrounded by the brightest minds in our company. The air was vibrating with ideas and the presentation of the new corporate strategy was in full swing. Suddenly, someone asked skeptically whether we really intended to implement the #strategy we were presenting? The CFO then posed a question, a question that got me thinking: "Are we sometimes too intelligent for our own good?"
💡 The intelligence trap
I have been thinking about this ever since. Can this intelligence - our proud knowledge and deep experience, which are now considered the ultimate currencies - sometimes get in our way? I remember very clearly how our CFO went on to explain. It was as if our ability to identify problems and uncover weaknesses in the presented direction also gave us an excuse to do nothing. Our intelligence, our heightened awareness of risks and potential mistakes sometimes makes us look like a lame horse.
👩🏻⚕️ Courage, innovation and failure tolerance
Most people are risk-averse, they avoid risks and shy away from the unknown. But in this caution or fear of failure, we could miss out on the very thing that could lead to a breakthrough.
Instead of letting our intelligence and experience limit us, we should use them as tools to boldly move forward, experiment and take risks. Our experiences should guide us, not shackle us. They should motivate us to try something new: einfachmalmachen
We should find out how we can break new ground instead of constantly questioning whether we should break new ground. The biggest breakthroughs often come when we are willing to think outside the box and make the impossible possible, when we are courageous, think innovatively and accept that mistakes are part of the process. Because at the end of the day, that very #courage, coupled with our intelligence and experience, could be the key to success.
